Solvent Extraction Apparatus
Velp Extraction Apparatus for the Quantitative Separation of Substances by Solvents
The Randall Technique:
Solvent extraction is used for the determination of many different components of products deriving from agriculture and industry or contained in environment samples.
The Soxhlet extraction is one of the most widely used analytical techniques. Different aspects of the Soxhlet extraction procedure have been modified.
Some of these attempt to increase the temperature of solvent coming into contact with the sample mixture to be extracted, in order to reduce the extraction time. The modification introduced by the American chemist Edward L. Randall is among the most effective for this purpose.
The first phase of extraction is performed by immersion of a sample containing containing thimble in boiling solvent followed by a washing by refluxing solvent. The fast solubilisation by the hot solvent allows a sharp reduction of extraction time.
The Velp SER 148/3 and SER 148/6 Solvent Extraction
Apparatus allow the quantitative separation of a substance or a
group of substances (e.g. fats) from a mixture of solids or
semi-solids. The extraction is performed, according to the Randall
technique,in two phases with a final recovery of the used solvent,
allowing a reduction of atmospheric pollution, of the extraction
time and the costs of analysis.
The equipment, designed for optimised manual use, is controlled by a programmable microprocessor allowing to choose among 29 programmes; two different displays will constantly show actual temperature and residual working time for the selected programme.
The extractions are performed under high safety conditions because the equipment follows the norms CEI EN 60529 with an IP 55 protection degree and is manufactured from advanced materials and with innovative technical details.
The main sectors of applications include the analysis of food, feed, detergents, rubber and plastic formulates, pharmaceutical products, soils and others, for their content of soluble components like fats, tensides, plastifiers and pesticides.
